BARBERTON -- Today, Senator Vernon Sykes proudly endorsed the local operating levy supporting Barberton Public Library, and encouraged community residents to vote to renew it.
"Our local library provides valuable programs and services for the entire community to enjoy. Voting YES is a simple way to show our support," said Senator Sykes. "This levy is not a new tax. It won't cost you any more to show your love for your local library. Vote YES for Barberton Public Library."
This year's levy will allow the Barberton library to acquire updated books, movies, and technology. The levy is also critical for the library's ability to continue its operations and programs. In 2021, the local operating levy will account for 40% of the library’s total revenue. Without it, services would likely suffer drastic cuts.
This levy is not a new tax. It simply extends the current $1.95 million operating levy for another five years.
The Barberton Public Library is an independent library and is not part of the Akron-Summit County Public Library system.
